Life Lately...

I feel like I haven't written on here in soooo long! I've been a little busy with my classes, and I was feeling not-so-inspired the first half of last week. Those feelings happen. It's rough when you don't feel creative, but I know from experience that you often have to get through those hard days to grow creatively. Inspiration is always around the corner...hence this new little collection I've been working on!

I'm still drawn to florals (don't worry...I'm working on something now that isn't 100% tied to florals) so this is a very flowery collection. I also created some fun bedroom mockups to bring these designs to life. Hopefully this week will prove to be very inspirational, and I'll feel a burst of creativity!

Abstract Spring Collection

Hey, everyone!

I've been really busy this past week with my classes for Make It In Design (The Art and Business of Surface Patter Design) and I'm loving it! We're learning about finding our design style, creating pattern collections, using trend reports and color, and I feel like I'm in heaven. I love learning about this kind of stuff, and I really love being surrounded by people who feel the same way that I do.

One of our assignments was to create a stationary line for a brand, with fresh, feminine and fashionable design elements. I was already bringing this collection together and thought it would be perfect for this exercise! I changed the colors on some of my previous abstract patterns and added them in, and now I think the collection feels very balanced. There are a few leading patterns, some coordinating prints, and some simple blender patterns.

I also created some mockups to see how the patterns would look on stationary. Here is the whole collection, as well as some close-ups of the mockups.

Hey, y'all!

I've been loving abstract patterns lately, so I decided to try my hand at some. It's not always as easy as it looks; balance and cohesion within the pattern is extremely important. You always want your pattern to be pleasing to the eye!

I started by painting tons of motifs with black acrylic. This was just a fun, playful experiment for me to see how I could morph these motifs into fun and exciting patterns. I also hand-letterd (hand-painted?) an alphabet so I could turn the letters into vectors and use in future projects.

Here are the motifs that I painted:

And here are some of the patterns and quotes I created:

These were such fun patterns to work on, and I plan on trying to implement abstract features into future designs.

That's all for now!
